I did not touched pork for the last 10 years because of the funny “pork stink”. About 3-4 years ago, i started taking minced pork because mum’s cooking taught me a good marinate can rid that smell and it can taste really good depending on the kind of ingredients added. I can too achieve that with my own cooking and discovered that eggs & mushroom really aided in the aroma. In addition, I deduced the small the surface areas, the better the absorption of the marinate. So as a conservatist, i only take minced pork.
A nice chance to that habitual came along when I was brought to a hawker in the east. There were splendid reviews about the meat ball stall there. I had my concerns of course and even offered to give my meat balls away when the noodles finally came after a good 30mins. But i was urged to try it and i did.
It was nothing like meat balls. Fragant & memorable were the 2 words that came into mind. And i slurped the whole bowl in less than 5mins. I was not full with the $2 order and almost wanted to get another bowl. Yes it was that good. And within that month i went back to the stall again, just for the noodles.
Came this food fair may 07 in Singapore Expo recently, i found the exact meatballs like they’re from the beloved stall. Of course i went back with 3 packs, only $5 for all 3. The packaged ones are smaller than the original ones from the hawker but the taste is almost authentic. There is a Mushroom Pork Ball as well and just as delectable.
Think the brand is called Wu Shi (dancing lion). Im not sure if this is available in supermarkets but theres definately a good cause to keep an eye for it next time.
