SHOPPING MALLS
Bangsar Shopping Centre (Bangsar)
A suburban shopping mall just a short drive from the Bangsar hub at Telawi. Very popular with expatriates who shop for groceries at Cold Storage and Mister Ho’s. For the young and impressionable, there are the usual coffee places like Coffee bean and Austin Chase. Weekends are packed due to the street bazaar activity.
Mid Valley Mega Mall
A gigantic mall not far from Bangsar with a variety of clothes, food, speciality shops. You can also find Jusco and Carrefour. If you like pets, theres a 2 storey pet shop full of snakes, birds and fish.
KLCC
Its huge and upscale but there should be better ways to spend time.
Sungei Wang
The place to reside is Capitol Hotel. Its a 3-star hotel and close accessibility to Sungei Wang and Bintang Walk. Sungei Wang has plenty of small shops, just like Far East Plaza. There are many fashionable items coming from HK, Tokyo & Korea. Its easy to spend more than a day here.
STREETS
Chinatown aka Chee Chong Kai (Petaling St)
Chee Chong Kai is the Cantonese version for Chinatown and also what the locals would call it. Its easily accessible by their rail system and then just 10-15mins walk from there. As its been a while, i cant recall the name of the station. A quick search fetches me Masjid Jamek station. You can refer to the LRT map above. Else take a cab but be sure to hagger the price or ask for meter charges before you get in. Many vendors will tell you their fakes are all A grade but its just hard selling. The quality is not there at all. For a Singaporean like me even after bargaining, i get about S$35-40 rate for a Chanel imitation. They dont last long too. I wouldnt advise getting fakes here unless you really come across a really good piece. Its a good place however to browse around and to find good eateries.
Bintang Walk (Jalan Bukit Bintang)
![]() |
A street of shopping malls namely Starhill Shopping Centre and Lot 10 with exclusive brand names as tenants such as Gucci, Prada, Versace, Mango to KL Plaza, Sungai Wang Plaza and Bukit Bintang Plaza with its specialised tenants from trendy, fad clothing to electrical goods. Imbi Plaza and Plaza Low Yat are the two malls to go if you’re looking for anything to do with computers. I love this street. There are so many malls to hop into. Midnight the whole street is still lively and you can see lots of cafes like Coffee Bean & Swensens still opening.

NIGHT
Bangsar
![]() |
This is where the hip, the stylish and the beautiful, and not forgetting to mention, the wannabes hang out to be seen on weekends. Night clubs and bars, trendy restaurants and specialty coffee cafes line the streets. On “Ladies’ Nights’ and weekends, party goers are seen spilling out of the more popular spots like Finnegan’s, Flam’s and Telawi Street Bistro. Bangsar is alive almost 20 hours a day. Have breakfast at the Dome, Coffee Bean, Starbucks or San Francisco Coffee, lunch at Red Chamber, have tea at Alexis or Cocomo, and spoil yourself with some fine dining at Grappa’s. Alternatively, you can simply park yourself at a sidewalk of a café and people watch. Sometimes this is more fun than being part of the herd.
Dress down Sunday evenings and drive to Bangsar for its ever-popular night market – fresh flowers, fresh groceries, lots of titbit for you to snack on and of course, cooked food to take home for dinner.
How to get there – there isn’t a taxi driver in KL who does not know how to get to Bangsar. But if you’re looking for an alternative – take the Putra LRT and stop at the Bangsar station.
